Saudi Arabia aims to develop 130 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2030, which could facilitate electricity exports, alongside shared ambitions in carbon capture and storage with Greece.

Building on their 2022 agreement to connect electricity grids, the countries have now expanded their collaboration to include a feasibility study for a potential hydrogen corridor.

This milestone marks the first official visit by a Greek energy minister to Saudi Arabia in two decades, following a January 13 meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The meeting established the 1st Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis underscored Greece’s initiatives in renewable energy and digital connectivity, positioning the nation as a hub in South-Eastern Europe and a bridge between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
