What better way to experience the beauty of a Greek island if not from above?
That’s the idea behind the annual International Kalymnos Climbing Festival, which takes place on October 7-9 this year on the Dodecanese isle.
Known as the island of the sponge divers, Kalymnos has for over a decade held the climbing event bringing more than 6,500 lovers of the sport from across the globe to the island and aiming in this way to promote alternative forms of tourism.
The island’s rich landscape offers a wide array of over 77 climbing choices thanks to its rugged and mountainous terrain. Meanwhile, the Kalymnos Climbing School offers lessons to beginners.
Local tourism authorities and professionals are aiming through the yearly event to attract returning tourists and extend the tourism season contributing to local growth.
The International Kalymnos Climbing Festival is organised by the Municipality of Kalymnos.
