Greek media has reported a hand grenade attack outside the French Embassy in central Athens, which lightly wounded a policeman early Thursday morning.
Authorities said the policeman, who had been on guard outside the embassy, was hurt when unknown assailants threw a hand grenade outside the embassy building, located opposite Parliament.
Police shut down the area to vehicles and pedestrians, while anti-terrorism forensics experts were at the scene for evidence and said the attack was apparently carried out by two people on a motorbike. A bike matching the description was apparently later found in a central Athens neighbourhood and being examined to determine whether it was the one that had been used in the attack.
