Greece is amazing says Trump to Greek PM at NATO Summit

Greece’s Prime Minister is in Brussels for the NATO Summit where he was meeting with world leaders and hoping to upgrade the country’s role within the alliance after the tensions with Turkey.

Alexis Tsipras also took the opportunity to meet with his British counterpart Theresa May and offered his condolences for the terrorist attack in Manchester.

The Greek PM later had a brief encounter with the US President Donald Trump ahead of the summit who hailed Greece’s recovery as ‘amazing’.

“You are recovering and this is amazing. Greece is a wonderful country with wonderful people,” said Donald Trump.

The Greek PM also had lengthy meeting with other world leaders including his Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Tsipras also held brief meetings with his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte and Canada’s Justin Trudeau and spoke with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

The Greek PM had a meeting with his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, and according to government sources, Tsipras referred to the recent events in FYROM and stressed that stability in the region would be achieved when nationalist practices and rhetoric in the wider region are overcome in favour of democratic principles and the respect for international law.

Tsipras and Rama both noted the historic, cultural and economic ties between their countries and said that Greek-Albanian relations were of a "strategic nature and importance." Discussing bilateral ties, they expressed full support for an initiative by the foreign ministers in the two countries to set up an "intensive talks" mechanism in order to further improve relations.
