Greek government to introduce gender equality laws

Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced on Thursday legislative initiatives, which he says will guarantee gender equality.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Interior Minister Panos Skourletis and his colleagues where he also introduced an initiative on Greek citizenship "in order to simplify and speed up the procedures for rendering citizenship, especially in regards t the process of interviewing and the presentation of supporting documents and the time required."

Tsipras earlier said that he had a substantial discussion on the ministry's issues.

"I found out that there is a serious level of preparation, and I believe that in the context of a more general plan for the productive reconstruction of the country, the role of the Interior Ministry is important. All these years a counterproductive and non-transparent institutional framework was created, vulnerable to all kinds of customer practices. We want to redesign this framework for the benefit of the citizen," Tsipras said.
