A giant Greek flag, 375 square metres in total, was painted on Monday at the northern heights in Mavrovouni, Kalymnos, just below a Holy Church.

This was done in honour of four people who died here, 38 years ago at Easter, from an explosion.

The flag was the idea of the Ambelas brothers, who are painters by profession and were assisted by many locals to complete the blue and white national flag.

There is also the idea of continuing the project, by installing headlamps to illuminate the flag at night, which they have asked the local council permission for.
