Tourists in Crete bring their own food to eat at local tavern

By 6 years ago

Tourist season is slowly beginning in Greece and a bizarre story has just surfaced from Crete, where a local paper foneien.gr reports a group of tourists sat down at a tavern in Agios Nikolaos on Tuesday, with food they packed in containers from their hotel, placed it on the table and began eating.

When the waitress approached them to take their order, they said they just wanted some bottles of water.

With all-inclusive packages available on most popular Greek islands, it’s not rare for many international visitors to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at their resort, without trying any local restaurants and delicacies during their stay.

However, this incident seems to be quite extreme and has left locals wondering why they didn't head to a nearby park or public space, rather than sit at a table of a restaurant to eat their own food.
