A very close group of family and friends gathered at Saint Nektarios Church in Voula, Athens overnight for the funeral of murdered Greek Australian man John Macris.
The service was closed off to about 50 people, including his widow Viktoria Karyda, his son and daughter, his mother, father, brother, and other close family and friends.
Reports claim that Macris’ father, Stelios, has now left Athens for Australia, where Macris’ body is expected to be laid to rest, but the 82-year-old was among the close mourners who gave Macris a last kiss goodbye.
Macris’ funeral service was held only hundreds of metres further up from where he was murdered by a gunman who fired six shots in total on Wednesday and is still on the run.
His body will be returned to Sydney for burial and reports also claim his widow is now also planning to move to Australia with their two children.
