A stylish Greek tavern opened its doors this week in Astoria, New York City’s Greek neighbourhood.

Amylos Tavern offers a mix of modern and traditional food, which is also the theme for the décor and design of this cool new eatery, featuring rustic chandeliers, a sleek marble bar and a mix of stone walls and wooden flooring, creating a real New York feel with a splash of Aegean beauty.

The menu includes modern twists such as lobster moussaka, Greek tacos, and Ouzo mussels, however, there are also traditional favourites like Gemista, Kleftiko and Kontosouvli.

Amylos is owned by the Arvanitis family who also run Omonia Café, which is just a block away.

“We carefully chose the most original recipes ranging from various regions in Greece; starting from the southern Aegean islands to the northern mainland, each region of Greece has its own unique take on cooking,” says the Arvanitis clan.

You can complete your meal by indulging in a selective wine list or just sit by the bar and sip on a cocktail, which New Yorkers are famous for.

“This, coupled with warm and friendly service, and our inviting, cozy ambiance are what make up the ingredients of Amylos’ recipe for ‘philoxenia’. Our concept is to honour the traditional Greek flavors and hospitality combined with the allure of modern presentation in a contemporary setting,” adds management.

About 150 people can be seated in the sleek one-floor restaurant which is open from 5pm to 11pm on weekdays and 11:30pm on weekends.

Brunch is also served from noon to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

A: 33-19 Broadway, Astoria, NY
