Kyriakos Mitsotakis, leader of Greece’s main opposition party New Democracy, on Tuesday, demanded to see the final revised text of the constitution of FYROM, calling any attempts to discuss the Prespes Agreement in Parliament without seeing it first was “inconceivable”.

Mitsotakis call comes just as the Prespes Agreement cleared the committee level on Tuesday night with more discussions today Wednesday, before a vote on Friday morning.

The New Democracy (ND) leader reiterated that the Prespes Agreement will harm Greece by “abandoning a policy of decades” and said ND would join the debate “to explain to the Greek people why this Agreement is a bad one and do what it can to avert its ratification in the Greek parliament.”

“I think it’s inconceivable that we are asked to carry on this discussion without the tabling in parliament of the final revised and codified text of the Skopjan constitution resulting from the revision process,” Mitsotakis noted.

He added that what Alternate Foreign Minister George Katrougalos tabled in the committee on Tuesday “is nothing but the Skopjan constitution as it still is, so how can the Greek parliament make such an important decision without knowing in fine detail the revised articles and the final revised text of the neighbouring country’s constitution?”
