Ryanair flight lands safely in Cyprus after being struck by lightning

A Ryanair Boeing 737-8AS aircraft landed safely at Paphos International Airport after being struck by lightning over Cypriot airspace on Tuesday night, with reports saying passengers were unharmed during the incident.

The plane which took off from Riga, Latvia and was en route Cyprus when it got caught in a thunderstorm and was stuck several minutes before landing.

According to media reports, passengers were unaware that the plane had been hit by a lightning bolt.

An inspection of the aircraft after it had landed revealed that it had suffered minor damages particularly in the mechanical systems, with maintenance crew working all night to repair the damages.
