Tragedy in Lesvos: One child drowned

The Greek coast guard has announced that a refugee child has drowned near Lesvos this morning.

Reports state that a dinghy with 48 people on board was followed by the Turkish Coast Guard as it approached Greek waters, before it capsized.

The Coast Guard carried out a rescue operation, rescuing 46 people and transferring them onto the island of Lesvos.

Two children were taken to the Lesvos hospital, one unconscious who later tragically died. The other child survived.
