Glyfada residents will congregate from their balconies on Wednesday morning, to honour the Greeks’ fight for independence throughout years of Ottomon rule, by proudly singing the Greek National Anthem.

The idea is initiated by the Municipality of Glyfada, paying respect to #menoumespiti (amid the coronavirus pandemic) and the important Greek National Day.

Mayor George Papanikolaou’s goal is to have the Greek National Anthem heard in all the central squares from 11am-12:30pm.

“Raise the flags high and come out of your balconies, windows or courtyard to sing our National Anthem loudly,” he said.

As the municipality states in a press release, “from 11am until 12:30 pm on March 25th, with the sound installation of our municipality, the National Anthem will be heard in succession in central squares of Glyfada.”

The squares are: Karaiskaki, Agios Tryfonas, Eth. Antistaseos, Agios Pavlos, Makedonias, Agias Triados, Metheniti, Konitsis, Palmiras, Xenofontos, Agiou Nikolaou, Esperidon, Nimfon, Town Hall and Old Town Hall.
