Maritime Surveillance System in the Aegean

Greece's maritime borders will be monitored 24 hours a day with the installation of a new surveillance system, Ethnos reported.

Specifically, 35 surveillance sensor stations will be installed in locations around the eastern Aegean as well as around Crete.

The stations will be equipped with thermal cameras with radar and will be able to transmit data in real time.

"In this way, our country is being shielded to a great extent, in its maritime space from all illegal actions against it. At the same time, there is a facilitation in the protection of our maritime borders," Nikos Spanos, retired lieutenant colonel of the Coast Guard, told Open TV.

Turkey’s (failed) asymmetric invasion attempt in March sounded the alarm to prepare intensively for any new attempts.

It is also recalled that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that after the end of the pandemic, there will be another wave of illegal immigration to Greece.

The surveillance system headquarters will be located in the Operations Centre of the Coast Guard, while at least 50 executives will be trained to specialise in the new operation.

A week ago, the Hellenic Coast Guard released the another video which proves how the Turkish Coast Guard not only makes no effort to prevent illegal immigrants from attempting to enter Greece, but rather promotes it.

The Coast Guard had exposed similar videos in the past.
