Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, beloved U.S. Supreme Court justice and champion of women's rights, passed away on Friday aged 87 due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer.
After the news broke, celebrities and politicians including the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, paid tribute to RBG's life and legacy.
“I mourn RBG as if she were a member of my family. She was the guarantee of balance, Justice and truth, a ‘moral force of nature,’ as she was called. The US Supreme Court has lost perhaps its most valuable member,” the President posted on Facebook.
Sakellaropoulou also stated that RBG "was for me the strongest role model in my years of justice."
“The spirit, the courage, the faith with which the Notorious RBG, as she was dubbed, defended, as a member of the US Supreme Court from 1993 until yesterday, the rights of women, of minorities, liberal values, [and] democracy, it is legendary,” she continued.
“So was the accuracy of her legal texts, the clarity and correctness of her opinion, whether it belonged to the majority or, as very often happened, to the minority of the rulings.”
