The Eiffel Tower was evacuated after man made a phone call shouting “Allahu Akbar” and threatened to activate explosive device.
The bomb threat happened at around midday local time and police could be seen blocking off nearby roads towards the Eiffel Tower.
A source at the Eiffel Tower speaking to The Daily Mail said: ‘The Eiffel Tower is currently closed until further notice, because of an unidentified caller saying a bomb has been planted. There has been an evacuation.”
Videos by French journalist Barthelemy Bolo on Twitter show police cordoning off areas around the iconic Parisian landmark.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, a police official revealed that the bomb threat against the 133-year-old tower was a false alarm.
The official, who asked not to be named, said the historic landmark in French capital reopened for visitors under security measures.
The Eiffel Tower is no stranger to terrorist threats and has several times in the past few years been evacuated because of such threats.
