By 3 years ago

The government has restricted entry from the land borders in Northern Greece, the epicenter of COVID-19 in the country.

Although some claim that COVID-19 cases seem to be stabilizing, but without decreasing dramatically, there were still 2,581 new cases in Greece in the past 24 hours.

519 people are being treated by intubation, while there are 72 more registered deaths, bringing the total death count to 1,419.

New rules applied from Friday morning at Greece's land borders.

Specifically:

      • Greek and EU citizens entering from Promachonas near Bulgaria can do so from 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening only, while the freight transports pass 24 hours a day.
      • Only Greek citizens, residents and holders of residence permits can enter from Kakavia on the border with Albania, as well as for absolutely necessary professional or medical travel. The passage is allowed to individuals from 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening only, while freight transport in this case passes 24 hours a day.
    Kakavia border crossing.
    • In addition, those entering from Kakavia, due to the increased epidemiological burden in Albania, are required to enter a seven-day quarantine, in the areas they have declared when completing their PLF.
    • Only Greek citizens, residents, and holders of residence permits can enter from Evzoni near North Macedonia, as well as for absolutely necessary professional and medical travel. The crossing in this case is allowed from 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening only, while the freight transfers pass 24 hours a day.
    • Finally, Ormenio is only open for freight 24 hours a day with only the driver of the vehicle.

It is remembered that entrance into Greece still requires a PLF and a negative COVID-19 test which has been carried out up to 72 hours before arrival.

All the entrants are subjected to rapid test by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection and the Greek medical ministry to verify the correctness of the test.

In addition, freight drivers will be sampled.
