Athens will soon be home to its own Olympic Museum.
In the Golden Hall shopping mall in Marousi, visitors will soon be able to visit the museum dedicated to the long history of the Olympic Games.
It will operate under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as a member of The Olympic Museums Network.
The museum will include rich interactive audiovisual material and personal items, medals and souvenirs from previous Olympic Games. There will also be a cafe and gift shop.
“The operation of the Olympic Museum inside the Golden Hall, in combination with the upcoming upgrade of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA) makes the area of Maroussi even more, as a pole of sports and culture,” said Odysseas Athanassiou, CEO of Lamda Development, the developer of the Golden Hall.
The Olympic Museum of Athens aims to convey the philosophy of Olympism and highlight the unique contribution of Greece to the formation of the Olympic Movement, highlighting Athens as the Olympic Capital.
The museum which will become a sports and cultural destination, “will also emerge as a tourist destination, as part of modern history of the Olympic Games.”
