Member of Parliament for the ruling New Democracy, Konstantinos Kyranakis, tweeted that the extension of the border fence at Evros is progressing, while stressing that illegal immigrants can begin being deported.
"The fence on the Greek-Turkish border at Evros is progressing while today it was announced that two more states of origin for immigrants was designation as 'safe'. Time for deportations to begin," he said.
It is worth noting that earlier in the day a Joint Decision by Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis was published.
The joint decision updated a list of safe countries of origin, which now includes Bangladesh and Pakistan, meaning that illegal immigrants from these countries can now be deported.
A large number of migrants enter Greece from these countries.
Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Gambia, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, India and Armenia are also on the list.
