Two hundred and seventy-two vaccination centres will open across Greece on April 1, Health Secretary General for Primary Health Care Marios Themistokleous announced on Monday.
Overall, Greece has vaccinated over 1,464,000 people against Covid-19 up to now.
The country is also expecting to receive 1,100,000 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, as well as 450,000 AstraZeneca doses in April.
Last week, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the AstraZeneca vaccine for use after an emergency review found it is “a safe and effective vaccine,” and not linked to a higher risk of developing blood clots.
Inoculation remains the only solution for safeguarding oneself from the coronavirus, and any side effects should first be corroborated before they are allowed to cause any uncertainty, head of the Greek National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou pointed out.
Greece recorded 1,707 new cases of COVID-19 in the latest 24-hour reporting period.
This raises the total number of cases to 238,830.
Six hundred and eighty-one individuals are in ICU. Their median age is 68 years. 80.9% have an underlying condition or are aged 70 years and above.
The number of new Covid-19 patients in hospitals in the last 24 hours is 394, while the average of hospital admissions in the last seven days is 472 patients.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,592 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
The country’s pandemic death toll stands at 7,531. The median age of all was 79 years and 95.8% of the deceased had an underlying condition and/or age of 70 years or more.
