Seven Turkish opposition figures crossed the Evros River in an inflatable boat on Thursday morning and immediately asked Greek authorities for asylum.

The seven men, as reported by Pame Evro, were arrested by the Border Guard Fera Department.

According to the Evros-based outlet, it is not uncommon that Turkish citizens seek asylum in Greece.

There was no further information about which faction they belong to in Turkey, but Greece has become a common arrival point of Fethullah Gülen supporters, commonly known as Gülenists.

Gülen was once an ally of Turkish Presient Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, but the two split.
