The prices of lamb and goat have increased by 10% compared to last year in the Varvakeios market.
From early in the morning, people visited the market in order to shop for Easter lunch.
According to the president of Varvakeios Market, Andrea Niarchos, the price of lamb stabilised between 6.99 and 10.99 euros per kilo.
Compared to last year, there is a small charge for consumers of one euro.
According to the president, this is due to the increased demand of the Athenians who will spend their Easter in the city this year and not in the villages.
Butchers claim that the main reason for the price increase is due to the health conditions and turnover fluctuated at very low levels, resulting in large financial losses.
