The 22-year-old who was arrested in the Athenian suburb of Nea Smyrni because he tried, shortly after midnight on Wednesday, to sexually assault a girl while she was returning home was identified as the perpetrator of three similar cases.

In particular, according to the Police, the alleged perpetrator was identified for similar incidents against three other young women in Nea Smyrni, Paleo Faliro and Acropoli.

The accused was taken to prosecutors on Friday on the charge of insulting sexual dignity.

The father of the alleged perpetrator spoke to the Star’s main news bulletin.

On Star, he said “My child is perfect, beyond that what else can I tell you?”

“He is a student and works. He is a very good child, sensitive,” the father continued, adding: “He has never shown such signs before.”

At the same time, the 22-year-olds lawyer said “My client denies any wrongdoing and the offense, even if it is supposed to have been committed, is a misdemeanor.”

The case became widely known when the girl posted the video of the attack on social media, calling on the public to recognise him and then take the necessary steps to arrest him.

According to her complaint, the perpetrator followed her for about 300 meters from a tram stop to the girl’s house and she very quickly entered the entrance and immediately closed the door.

The video showed that despite the fact that the young woman closed the door and headed towards her home, the perpetrator also reached the entrance, until he stopped the chase after the door was closed.

Finally, at noon on Thursday, the girl was called by the police to identify the alleged 22-year-old perpetrator, something that finally happened.

Her neighbor recognised him since the 22-year-old is also a resident of the area and informed the Police.

Reflecting on the incident, the woman said “We did not speak at all, we did not exchange a word, he was just behind me all the time and I just entered my apartment building quickly, again thankfully I had the keys in my hand, otherwise I do not know what would happen…”
