Greek children from 12 years to be vaccinated as cases continue to grow

The President of Greece's National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou announced the imminent approval of a third booster shot of mRNA vaccine to those over 60 years of age including vaccinations for children from 12 years old age.

Mrs. Theodoridou made the announcement yesterday during a press briefing saying that the approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the administration of a third dose of mRNA vaccine will probably be given in mid-September, adding that data Greek studies show that the 3rd dose is effective in immunocompromised but also in people over 60 years.

Explaining why children should be vaccinated, she said that last May only 7.8% of all cases in Greece were children, a percentage that rose to 20% this July - that is, one in five cases were children - with closed schools, adding that it is reasonable to worry about what will happen after the opening of schools.

Theodoridou stressed that vaccination of children and adolescents is one of the most important aspects of  the vaccination program, as this will help reduce the pandemic

Specifically referring to the ages of 12 to 17, she said that vaccination must happen as it "it protects children, both physically and mentally and it allows him to return to school, but also to reduce the spread of the virus in their own environment " thus reducing the chances of new mutations of the virus in the community.
