Turkey threatens Europe with new wave of illegal immigration

Following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, Turkey has been playing games by opening up to the Taliban on the one hand,  and, on the other, “bargaining” with Europe over a possible new wave of refugees.

According to a SKAI news report, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan  sent a clear message that Turkey does not intend to keep refugees in its territories, with reports he is putting pressure on Germany over refugees.

Commentators say that the Turkish President is hedging his bets on the German election and the millions of Turkish voters living and voting in the country.

In a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Erdoğan  clarified that Turkey is not in a position to manage the flow of refugees from Afghanistan and warned that no one would want to relive the 2015 situation.

Meanwhile, in an atmosphere of  rare consensus with Greece, the Turkish President, in his meeting on August 21 with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, agreed on the need to support the countries in the immediate neighborhood with Afghanistan, so that the Afghans stay as close to their homes as possible.
