A giant Greek flag with 40x26 metre dimensions was painted by Kasos islanders so that it is clearly visible from air and sea.
It is important to note that Kasos, as the southernmost island of the Dodecanese and with just over 1,000 inhabitants, is located in the sea area between Crete and Karpathos, ie the territorial waters that Turkey was provokingly sailing around in the past few days.
The flag was painted in the context of the celebrations of the heroic island and its inhabitants for their contribution to the Greek War of Independence 200 years ago in 1821.
Volunteers, the municipal authority of the island, the Army and other sponsors helped paint the giant flag.
