Greece staged a protest against Turkey following the ongoing provocations by Ankara regarding the status of the eastern Aegean islands.
Diplomatic sources say that the Foreign Ministry informed Ankara of its strong dissatisfaction but also protested against the recent statements of Turkish officials, who questioned the Greek sovereignty over the Aegean islands.
Athens continually highlights that these allegations are illegal and non-existent.
These statements, he added, are not only counterproductive but also an escalation of Ankara's provocative behaviour.

The same diplomatic sources also pointed out that there is an oxymoron in Turkish positions: the Turkish side constantly invokes international law when it is blatantly violating it.
Their contradictions of international law are the casus belli, the Turkish-Libyan "memorandum" to steal Greek maritime space, but also the so-called "Blue Homeland."
The Foreign Ministry has instructed Greek diplomats in the EU, NATO and UN Security Council member states to provide information on the escalation of Ankara's provocative behaviour regarding Greece's Aegean islands.
Ankara's provocative statements
Just yesterday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan raised the issue of demilitarisation of the Aegean islands, noting that Ankara will keep the issue on the agenda.
"What steps should Turkey take against Athens if the armament is maintained?" the Turkish President asked according to state-controlled outlet Anadolu.
Erdoğan added: "It is impossible to remain silent about the military activity, in violation of the agreements for the demilitarisation of the islands."
"In fact, we have put this issue on the agenda of the United Nations.
"We will keep it on the agenda.
"The issue of islands is always controversial.
"They may force us to bring three controversial issues to the agenda.
"That is why ministers should not force us to open this debate.
"We are giving them a high-level warning," the Turkish president concluded.
The same remarks were made a few days ago by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
