When will Erdoğan’s TOGG SUV arrive in Greece?

Based on announcements, regular production of the TOGG at the new factory in the city of Gölcük, which has a capacity of 175,000 cars per year, will start in early 2023 at the latest.

This is because the start of its sales is planned for the first half of 2023, and this of course concerns the internal market of Turkey. In Europe and in Greece, since the Turks also have aspirations for exports, sales of TOGG will start 18 months after.

However, if we judge from other announcements by the Turks, e.g. for their aircraft carrier that will eventually only have drones or for their home-built frigates, the dates are just indicative.

From there, the TOGG will be available with two batteries that will ensure a range of 300 and 500 kilometres respectively and will charge on a DC fast charger, with up to 80% of their capacity charged within 25 minutes.

According to statements from the Turks, this time will be reduced to 8 minutes by 2025.

At the same time, the TOGG will be available with either one 200 hp electric motor and two-wheel drive or two 200 hp each and four-wheel drive.

The Turks also announced that the limousine version will go on sale in the country’s domestic market at the end of 2024, the hatchback in 2030, as well as the smaller SUV and the convertible.

TOGG, or Turkey’s Automobile Joint Venture Group Inc. (Turkish: Türkiye’nin Otomobili Girişim Grubu A.Ş.) is a Turkish automotive company founded as a joint venture in 2018. Anadolu Group, BMC Turkey, Kök Group, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding are major stakeholders under the umbrella institution TOBB. Each company has 19% shares and TOBB has 5% share.

During the 2010s, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for an initiative to produce a Turkish automobile brand. In 2017, Erdoğan announced the creation of TOGG and its participants.
