An unidentified man has reportedly climbed on top of the Parthenon temple in Athens and hung various flags on it.

Photographs circulating on social media captured the incident where one can clearly discern the national flag of Greece, the Star of Vergina flag of ancient Macedon.

Curiously, the man also included the flag of New Democracy, the political party currently in government.

Police and ambulance personnel have arrived on the scene with reports suggesting the man has threatened to committ suicide by jumping off the Acropolis and plunging to his death
