Sky Express investigates cat boarding incident: "We will work with animal welfare organisations"

Sky Express issued a statement after the incident with a passenger and the owner of a sick cat who was not allowed to board the aircraft with her pet on the flight from Athens to Heraklion, Crete.

With a long text, Katerina Tsoukala criticised the intransigent attitude of an employee due to her refusal to let her travel with the cat. The Sky Express employee even went so far as to ask her for a vet's certificate to make sure her pet's cancer is not contagious...

"The specific incident is already being investigated, and if it is established that some employees did not act in accordance with the prescribed safety regulations but also with the culture and values of our company, the necessary actions will be taken," reads the Sky Express announcement.

"This year more than 11,000 pets traveled with our company with care and safety," it stated, among other things.

The full Sky Express announcement:

The pet travel rules are strict and bind each airline to their implementation. However, the specific incident is already being investigated, and if it is found that some employees did not act in accordance with the prescribed safety regulations, but also with our company's culture and values, the necessary actions will be taken, as well as the relevant recommendations for handling similar incidents.

A high-ranking executive of the company has already contacted the particular passenger and expressed her regret for the incident. The company intends, in collaboration with it and other animal welfare organisations, to proceed with a series of symbolic and substantial actions of an animal welfare nature such as sponsorships, free tickets, etc.

SKY Express has proven for years that it is an absolutely friendly company for pets and their companions. It is indicative that this year alone more than 11,000 pets traveled with our company with care and safety. And so we will continue without allowing an unpleasant incident to call into question this commitment.
