Holidaymakers on Gavdos Island continue to protest the mayor’s opposition to nudism. They organized a gathering on Sarakinikos Beach with the slogan Tsitsidia and dressed, everyone united!

In a social media post, the Gavdos Holidaymakers Initiative emphasized that “with or without a swimsuit, we send a message of unity and freedom from Gavdos, standing against those who seek to divide us with conservative ideologies.

Among the slogans they chant is “Hands off nudists,” reflecting their strong sentiment against the mayor’s policy.

The Nudist “Conflict” with the Mayor As reported by ekriti.gr.Gavdos Island is renowned as a haven for free camping and nudist activities. However, this year marked the first time that a “Nudism is prohibited” sign appeared on Sarakiniko Beach, a move that sparked immediate and forceful reactions.

“Many nudists come to the island to experience nature’s freedom, and suddenly we learn about this ban,” voiced numerous nudists in protest on social media after seeing the municipal sign along the coastline.

In response, nudists removed and tore down the sign. The mayor of Gavdos, who gained notoriety due to the clash with free campers, reinstated the sign, declaring her unwavering determination to stand her ground until nudists conform and wear swimsuits on the beach.

In an official statement from the Gavdos Municipality concerning this issue, they stated, “Once again, unidentified individuals removed and vandalized the signs placed by the Municipality of Gavdos in its effort to designate one out of at least ten beaches on the island for everyone. Once again, the Municipality of Gavdos took necessary legal steps to protect public property, obtained replacements and will continue to do so as needed.
