Runoff local government elections were held at 6 out of 13 regions of Greece and at 84 municipalities, in all of which candidates did not reach the required majority of at least 43% on October 8.
Regions with runoff elections included Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, North Aegean, Western Macedonia, Thessaly, Ionian Islands, and the Peloponnese.
Among the cities electing mayors today are Greece’s three largest municipalities – Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras.
Initial results are expected much earlier than they were announced on October 8, since today’s elections are between the top two contenders only and do not involve individual votes against specific candidates on ballot lists.
