The manslaughter trial began for Jessica Beauvais, accused of killing NYPD Detective Anastasios Tsakos.
“She struck him with such speed, power, and force that his body smashed into the hood of her car, rolled up the windshield and hit the roof of her vehicle,” the Assistant Queens district attorney stated in court.
On April 27, 2021, Detective Tsakos was on the side of the LIE investigating a Queens crash when he was allegedly struck and killed by Beauvais.
According to the prosecution, she is accused of driving off and leaving him to die. The prosecution says the 43-year-old father of two’s body landed 171 feet from where the impact happened.
Prosecutors have stated that Beauvais’ blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and Beauvais has pleaded not guilty to the charges she is facing.
Jessica Beauvais previously denied a prosecution plea deal of 16 years in prison. If she is convicted, she faces at least 20 years behind bars.
