32 Egyptians in a vessel bound for Gavdos, from which they sent an emergency SOS early Monday, were transferred to a children's summer camp at Kalathas, Crete.
A ship located them on Tripiti beach collected them, and transferred them to the port of Sfakia, from where the police moved them by coach to the camp premises.
It is the fifth incident involving migrants who disembarked on the shores of western Crete, said the vice mayor responsible for social policy, Eleni Zervoudakis, to AMNA.
"In the last month and a half, a corridor from Egypt to the Greek island of Gavdos has been created. These people are in a challenging position. They are experiencing all the pieces of the puzzle of a humanitarian crisis," she said.
"As the municipality of Chania, we are standing by them and trying to help them as much as possible," Zervoudakis continued.
"Every week, we host between 23 and 32 refugees and migrants at the children's camp at Kalathas in Akrotiri, who remain in the camp for approximately one week," concluded the vice mayor.
