Kyrgios, the 28-year-old runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2022, has been hindered by injuries throughout the past season, participating in only one official singles match in 2023.
In justifying his move to OnlyFans, Kyrgios stated, “They are revolutionizing social media, and I wanted to be a part of that. Athletes can no longer just show up on the court or the field. We have to show up online too. I want to create, produce, direct, and own content. That’s the future,” as highlighted in the official announcement.
OnlyFans, based in London, functions as a subscription platform where users pay creators for a range of content, including photos and videos. It is notable to mention that Kyrgios has clarified that he will not be posting sexually explicit content on his page.
Keily Blair, CEO of OnlyFans, expressed enthusiasm about Kyrgios joining the platform, describing him as a “disruptor” and commending his unique approach to sharing content and expressing himself.
Although he currently lacks an ATP ranking due to his extended absence from competitions, Kyrgios has been ranked as high as No. 13 globally and has secured seven singles titles, accumulating over $12 million in prize money.
Apart from his on-court accomplishments, Kyrgios has attracted attention for his controversies, such as spitting in the direction of a spectator, using explicit language during matches, and facing assault allegations. However, he has remained a captivating figure within the sport.
Kyrgios’ recent tennis season began with a setback, as he had to withdraw from the Australian Open in January due to knee surgery. Subsequently, he faced wrist problems and ultimately withdrew from Wimbledon in July.
Kyrgios candidly admitted during a news conference before his withdrawal from Wimbledon that he didn’t miss tennis during his time away, but acknowledged it as his job.
