According to a report released on Friday by the Greek National Organisation for Public Health, there was a significant rise in cases of Covid-19, flu or flu-like symptoms, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infections between December 18 and 24.
The spread of the SARS-CoV2 virus in the community increased, resulting in a 37% rise in hospital admissions compared to the same week in 2022. Covid-19 also claimed the lives of 62 individuals, with a median age of 83, and 54 individuals required intubation in hospitals. Greece has identified a total of 102 JN.1 sub-variants of BA.2.86.
Flu infections also saw an increase, with three severe cases reported, as well as RSV infections.
