By 4 months ago

According to a report released on Friday by the Greek National Organisation for Public Health, there was a significant rise in cases of Covid-19, flu or flu-like symptoms, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infections between December 18 and 24.

The spread of the SARS-CoV2 virus in the community increased, resulting in a 37% rise in hospital admissions compared to the same week in 2022. Covid-19 also claimed the lives of 62 individuals, with a median age of 83, and 54 individuals required intubation in hospitals. Greece has identified a total of 102 JN.1 sub-variants of BA.2.86.

Flu infections also saw an increase, with three severe cases reported, as well as RSV infections.

In light of the increased prevalence of the coronavirus, EODY suggests that people take extra precautions, such as:

  • Ensuring that all individuals over 60 years old and those with underlying health conditions receive the latest and updated vaccinations.
  • Wearing face masks in hospitals, clinics, healthcare centers, and all indoor spaces housing elderly individuals.
  • Everyone should prioritize personal hygiene measures, including frequent handwashing and ventilating indoor areas.
