In an interview with the Turkish newspaper Diriliş Postası, Tatar emphasized the strategic significance of Cyprus, which is located at a vital point where Mediterranean trade routes intersect.
He stated that despite the lack of international recognition, the occupied territories possess potential comparable to major economic centers like Dubai.
Tatar also announced that the Lefkoniko airport will be handed over to the Turkish Armed Forces in order to counter external threats. He highlighted the importance of this decision for both Turkey's security and the interests of the occupying administration, and mentioned ongoing consultations with Ankara.
Furthermore, Tatar voiced concerns about escalating tensions in the Mediterranean, particularly emphasizing the role of British military establishments on the island.
He warned of potential complications arising from activities carried out by British aircraft deployed from these bases, suggesting that they could become targets amidst regional instability.
