Australia suffered a setback in their Paris 2024 Olympics campaign with a loss to Canada, 83-93, complicating their position in Group A.

The Boomers now face a crucial game against Greece and their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, on Friday, August 2. To advance to the quarterfinals, Australia must secure a victory.

Despite Greece's current 0-2 record in the Olympics, Giannis Antetokounmpo has delivered outstanding performances, scoring 34 points against Canada and adding 27 points along with 11 rebounds against Spain.

Australia coach Brian Goorjian acknowledged the challenge ahead, highlighting Antetokounmpo's exceptional skills. "In this one, you're playing the best athlete in the world and one of the best players in the world," Goorjian said. "And he's around the basket and off the elbows, which is something we haven't faced before."

Goorjian also emphasized the importance of the upcoming match, noting the significance of the tournament structure. "The good thing about the way this tournament is you get two games in between the next one, but I just made sure that the guys understood when they leave the dressing room -- it's not a game, it's a tournament. And our future in Paris lies in this upcoming game," the coach concluded.
