Eight Polish nationals are awaiting rescue in the eastern Aegean Sea after their French-flagged sailboat sank in uncertain circumstances. The incident occurred approximately 3.4 nautical miles off the coast of Levitha, a small island in the Dodecanese.

The distressed sailors managed to escape the sinking vessel and board a life raft. They then alerted authorities by calling the 112 emergency number.

A multi-agency rescue operation is currently underway, with an air force helicopter, a coast guard vessel, and several nearby ships en route to their location. The rescue efforts are challenged by strong winds, with Force 7 winds reported in the area.
