Theoharis focused on presenting the conditions under which India, as a state with great potential in many areas of economic activity, could dynamically join the group of leading countries, especially in the global shipping industry.
He pointed out, "By participating in the Great Oceans Dialogue Conference, I tried to highlight the mutual benefits of India's activation in the shipping industry, as well as the fact that such integration is possible and feasible."
"However, the methodology required is specific and based on international partnerships with countries leading the sector, such as Greece. The desired result can be achieved through this cooperation between our country and India," Theoharis added.
According to the former tourism minister, India is a rising economic power in trade. Therefore, Greece cannot ignore the importance of the maritime transport industry, a sector in which the Mediterranean country plays a primary and decisive role globally.
In addition to promoting cooperation between Greece and India, Theoharis had talks with the Minister of Tourism of India, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Suman Billa, in the context of his contacts on the occasion of the Great Oceans Dialogue Conference.
The MP presented his vision and plan for the World Tourism Organization in view of the elections for the selection of a new head.
Summarising his impressions of the Great Oceans Dialogue Conference, he pointed out, "In the meetings I had here in New Delhi, I presented the reasons and dynamics of my candidacy for the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization position.
"I was particularly pleased that the high-ranking officials with whom I spoke cordially committed themselves to seriously supporting our candidacy.
"Besides, as has been proven in many other sectors, cooperation between Greece and India can also bear fruit in the World Tourism Organization, with positive effects both on the international tourism industry and on our two countries."
