Syria has officially fallen, marking the end of President Assad's government

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly left Damascus for an unknown destination.

Syrian rebels announced a significant breakthrough on Sunday, claiming to have entered the capital, Damascus. The rebels expressed joy, stating, "We celebrate with the Syrian people the news of freeing our prisoners and releasing their chains and announcing the end of the era of injustice in Sednaya prison."

Sednaya, a notorious military prison on the outskirts of Damascus, has been a symbol of the regime's harsh tactics, detaining thousands of political prisoners.

Earlier on Sunday, rebels seized control of the strategic city of Homs after a swift one-day battle. This victory has further weakened President Bashar al-Assad's grip on power and emboldened the opposition to march towards Damascus.

Residents reported intense gunfire in central Damascus, though the exact source remains unclear.

Buoyed by the recent withdrawal of government troops from key cities, rebels are now advancing towards the heart of Assad's power base.
