Greek Frigate Joins High-Risk Mission in Red Sea Amid Houthi Attack on USS Harry Truman

Share

The Greek Navy frigate Hydra is being deployed for a high-risk mission in the Red Sea as part of the European operation "Shields," which aims to safeguard shipping routes in the region. This mission will involve direct engagement with Yemen's Houthi rebels, who have been increasingly active in the area.

On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Houthi rebels launched a new assault on the American aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman, which was stationed in the northern Red Sea. The attack, claimed by the Houthi forces, involved both cruise missiles and drones. According to Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saria, the operation targeted the aircraft carrier and other warships in the region, forcing Harry Truman to move to the far northern Red Sea for safety.
