Oinofilia means “a love of wine” and there will be no shortage of wine and food to be enjoyed this weekend as this festival for lovers of Greek wine returns to Australia.
Off the back of a successful inaugural event in 2017, Oinofilia: A Celebration of the Food and New Wines of Greece is back in Melbourne and coming to Sydney for the first time this weekend.
Aiming to showcase the refinement and complexity of Greek wines, Oinofilia will showcase 80 different wines, from producers flown into Australia from all over Greece.
Greece has the oldest wine-producing regions in Europe, with wine made everywhere from the Aegean and Ionian Islands, to Macedonia and Crete. The country’s varied climate has everything from arid Mediterranean islands to wet, mountainous pine forests that receive snowfall in the winter. This makes for a diverse range of wine varietals currently coming out of Greece.
Oinofilia will allow ticket holders to sample classic and new Greek wine varietals, including Xinomavro, Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero and the new sweetheart of wines, Assyrtiko.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Greek fest without a feast! Depending on which city you call home, you can expect to sample sumptuous Greek cooking from Melbourne’s Elyros
restaurant and its sister Epocha, together with Prahran Market’s Sweet Greek and Sydney’s Agape Organic, among others.
