Thanasis joins brother Giannis for new season with Milwaukee Bucks

By 5 years ago

The 2019/2020 edition of the Milwaukee Bucks will join an exclusive club after the summer recruitment of Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Robin Lopez.

In sports, the brotherhood of a team is common theme players refer to when reflecting on the highs and lows of a season. In basketball, this is no different, but for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2019/2020 that reference might be more literal than figurative.

After an excellent run last season, the Bucks are hoping to take one step further in 2019/2020 and make it all the way to the NBA Finals. The Bucks have made a handful of offseason moves to bolster their roster with the majority of the team’s core, which revolves around Giannis Antetokounmpo, remains intact heading into the new season.

While the new arrivals in Milwaukee will likely take some time to gel with their new teammates, two new additions to the roster might be more familiar to the roster than most of the new recruits.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Robin Lopez’s arrival in Milwaukee sees the Bucks now sport two sets of brothers on their roster as the Antetokounmpo and Lopez families make up nearly a quarter of the team’s roster.

Although it’s not uncommon for brothers to play together on the same team, it’s extremely rare to have two sets of brothers on one team. In fact, it’s only been done once before.

Marcus and Markieff Morris and Zoran and Goran Dragic are the only other sets of brothers to feature on the same team when the quartet started the 2014/2015 season on the Phoenix Suns roster. That feat didn’t last too long as the Suns ultimately traded away the Dragic brothers to the Miami Heat prior to the NBA trade deadline the following February.
