It has been officially announced that next year’s Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.

This announcement means that the Games will be held on dates similar to the original dates, as they were scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 9 (2020). Therefore, the opening ceremony will take place on July 23, 2021. Despite the change, the Olympics will still be called “Tokyo 2020” and not “Tokyo 2021,” for marketing purposes. Additionally, the Paralympic Games will be held next year from August 24 to September 5.

This also means that next summer’s World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon (United States), which were scheduled for August 7-16, will now be held in 2022 instead. The World Aquatics Championships (set to take place in Fukuoka, Japan) will also be moved from 2021 to 2022.
