Two Turkish sailors, who have been quarantined with the other passengers on the 'Eleftherios Venizelos' ship were found walking on the beach front, and several meters away from the hotel where they are staying, according to lawandorder.gr.
According to the restriction protocol, they are not normally allowed to leave the room either. Because of this, the irresponsible sailors were fined €5000.
It is recalled that out of the 382 people on board the 'Eleftherios Venizelos' ship, 121 were found to be positive of the coronavirus, according to Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias.
Two of them were taken to hospital, while the rest were quarantined on the ship, which moored at the port of Piraeus almost two weeks ago.
In a statement outside the ship, Hardalias said most patients were asymptomatic.
The 261 occupants who were found to be negative of coronavirus were taken to three hotels, also quarantined as they came in contact with confirmed cases.
The ship 'Eleftherios Venizelos' was chartered to transport sailors to Spain, where they would man another ship. However, due to the emergency measures, this was not possible and the ship left for Turkey, where only Turkish citizens were allowed to enter the country.
However the irresponsible attitude of the two Turkish sailors has put the country on alert, as there now must be tracing conducted to ensure that they did not infect other people they may have been in contact with when they defied the restrictions.
Greece to date has 2170 cases and just over 100 deaths due to the coronavirus. This has been because of strict lockdown measures as Greece works hard to avoid an uncontrollable situation like Turkey where there are over 65,000 cases and 1,400 deaths, according to official data which is often disputed by doctors and journalists.
