A spike in Covid-19 cases led to the closure of schools in the small town of Paramythia in Thesprotia (Epirus region) on Monday, in a bid to contain the spread of the novel virus.
A team of experts from the National Organisation of Public Health (EODY) visited the town on Monday to investigate wether additional containment measures will be needed after seven people in the community of roughly 2,700 residents, tested positive for coronavirus.
This comes after authorities on Sunday reported that two sisters, aged 52 and 59 years old, were confirmed to be positive for Covid-19 at the University Hospital of Ioannina and may have infected another five people who have also tested positive. It is unknown how the two sisters became infected.
Greece registered 21 new coronavirus cases and no fatalities since Saturday, EODY also reported on Monday.
The total number of cases is 3,287, of whom 54.9% are men. Of the total, 725 are people who were infected abroad and 1,836 were infected by already known cases.
The average age of all confirmed cases is 48 years.
