Russian destroyer ‘Vice Admiral Kulakov’ moored at Piraeus port

The Udaloy-class ASW destroyer “Vice Admiral Kulakov” of the Russian Navy’s Northern fleet is currently docked at the port of Piraeus.

The announcement was made on the twitter account of the Embassy of Russia in Greece.

It is recalled Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to pay a special visit to Athens on October 26.

The reason for his visit is that Greece will hold the presidency of the Council of Europe until November, an international organisation in which Russia also participates.

Such a visit, at a time of deep crisis in Greek-Turkish relations, is crucial for Athens, because, among other things, Moscow is perhaps the only interlocutor who seems to have any influence in Ankara.

“Vice Admiral Kulakov”

Vice-Admiral Kulakov (Russian: «Вице-адмирал Кулаков») is a Udaloy-class destroyer of the Russian Navy. As of 2020, the ship was in active service. She is named after Soviet naval officer Nikolai Kulakov.
