Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry condemns bomb attack at Jeddah WWI memorial

The Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry strongly condemned a bomb attack at a World War I commemoration event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The terror attack injured several people and caused widespread panic.

The ceremony was attended by European diplomats on the occasion of Armistice Day (Remembrance day), November 11, which this year marks 102 years since the end of the war.

Among those injured was a Greek consulate employee. He remains in a stable condition in hospital.

In the statement, the Greek Foreign Ministry wished the man a speedy recovery and said that the consulate and the Greek Embassy in Riyadh are standing by in support. It also expressed its warm thanks to Saudi authorities for their support and their investigation of the incident.

The French, Greek, Italian, British and American embassies (who were in attendance) also released a joint statement condemning the "cowardly attack" at the Jeddah WWI memorial.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, although Saudi officials said an investigation was ongoing.
