After the quadripartite teleconference about Turkey between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis, Greece requested a new draft with specific measures against Ankara's provocations in the East Mediterranean so that tomorrow's Summit is properly prepared, Dimitris Karidis stresses to Sputnik Hellas.
"Greece wants, as was evident from today's quadripartite of European leaders, for an improved draft regarding Turkey, a Summit well prepared and in no way wants to repeat the previous Summits, where issues were not prepared correctly and the leaders negotiated until the early morning hours in order to reach an agreement", Karidis, an MP from the ruling New Democracy and Professor of International Relations at Panteion University emphasized.
Kairidis added that it is in this context, Athens pursued a new draft of conclusions for Turkey.
"We want the final agreement to be facilitated in the Council and to preserve European credibility in the face of Turkish delinquency," he said.
A source who participated in today's quadripartite with the Greek Prime Minister, believes that the bras-de-fer between France and Germany will judge the conclusions of the Summit.
According to the draft conclusions of the European Council, sanctions will target Turkish companies and individuals involved in the illegal drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In the quadripartite teleconference, Mitsotakis stressed that Turkey has chosen the path of unilateral actions that brings it face to face with consequences, focusing on the challenges against the Republic of Cyprus, culminating in Varoshia's UN resolution defying partial opening, for a two-state solution, and the need to "freeze" European arms sales to Turkey.
"The European Council should abide by its decisions and send a clear message to Turkey", concluded Mitsotakis, referring to the conclusions of the October European Council, without failing to mention the provocative instrumentation of illegal immigration by Turkey after revelations revealed the way Somali immigrants went to the Greek islands.
